Luuk Stoop
Luuk Stoop (b. 2003) is a photojournalist-student based in Oslo, specializing in documentary and narrative photography. Born in the Netherlands and raised in the small mountain town of Nesbyen in Hallingdal, he developed an early appreciation for landscapes, quiet environments, and the subtle rhythms of everyday life. This foundation later evolved into a commitment to visual storytelling with a focus on communities, lived experiences, and social environments.
Stoop’s work is rooted in an observational documentary approach, balancing journalistic clarity with a restrained visual style. He often explores the relationship between people and place — from the coexistence of wildlife and urban development at Østensjøvannet to the aftermath of natural disasters, such as the 2023 floods in Hallingdal. His photography reflects a calm, attentive gaze, emphasizing authenticity, environmental context, and narrative depth.
Guided by curiosity and a dedication to ethical storytelling, Stoop approaches each subject with respect, patience, and a willingness to listen. He continuously refines his photographic voice, aiming to create images that not only document events but also foster understanding between viewers and the communities he photographs.
